1 killed in freak road crash in Surigao del Norte

A driver was killed when a truck hauler he was driving turned turtle in a freak accident in Bacuag town in Surigao del Norte province. Radio dzXL reported on Wednesday that the driver's helper was injured in the crash, which took place Tuesday noon. Killed was Mario Macalmot, a resident of Butuan City, while his helper Baltazar Lambuyog was injured. Initial investigation showed the truck hauler was cruising the national highway heading for Madrid town in Surigao del Sur when it went out of control and crashed. Police suspected Macalmot had fallen asleep while driving, or the truck encountered an engine problem. Lambuyog is now being treated at the Caraga Regional Training Hospital. — LBG, GMANews.TV
