Cargo vessel with 17 crew stalls off Guimaras Island

A cargo vessel is stalled tilting off Guimaras Island in Western Visayas after reportedly suffering a hole in its bow section early Thursday while en route to Iligan City in northern Mindanao, a radio report said. A dzBB radio report quoted Philippine Coast Guard spokesman Commander Armand Balilo as saying that the MV Windstar, loading with copra, has 17 crew members who were waiting to be rescued as the ship is already leaning on one side. A Coast Guard advisory on Thursday called on all sea vessels plying the area where the MV WindStar is stalled to help rescue the 17 crew. As of this posting, Coast Guard authorities were verifying reports reaching their office that the ship has a hole and what caused it. — Nikka Corsino/LBG/RSJ, GMANews.TV
