Hunt on for escaped female detainee wanted for estafa, carnapping

Authorities are currently hunting down a female inmate linked to swindling and car theft cases who escaped from a Surigao City jail on Wednesday. Rachel Manzanares, also known as Rose Cinco, who has pending estafa and carnapping cases, is now the subject of a manhunt, radio dzXL reported on Thursday. Local jail officials are now investigating allegations that Manzanares was allowed to escape in exchange for P2.5 million. Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) regional director lawyer Rex Delarmente confirmed Manzanares' escape, the report said. Delarmente ordered the investigation of Jail Warden Inspector Reynaldo Balmore and his deputy Senior Jail Officer 2 Julian Sanchez, and two of Manzanares' escorts. Initial investigation showed Manzanares escaped at about 9 a.m. Wednesday while undergoing treatment in a local hospital. The inmate had been confined there since Sunday for breathing problems, but managed to escape while her escorts led by Balmore were settling her hospital bills. Balmore was relieved after the escape, and replaced with Senior Inspector Pio Rosero. For his part, Surigao del Norte Gov. Robert Ace Barbers expressed dismay over the escape and ordered a full investigation into the incident. - RJAB Jr., GMANews.TV
