PAGASA: More isolated rain showers expected

After rains brought relief from the searing summer heat Sunday, residents in Metro Manila can look forward to some more isolated rain showers on Monday, state weather forecasters said. But the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said residents should also brace for the return of hot weather soon. "Sa ngayon ay wala pa tayong bagyo o low-pressure area na namataan sa Philippine Area of Responsibility (For now, we have not sighted any low-pressure area or cyclone in the Philippine Area of Responsibility)," Pagasa forecaster Ben Oris said in an interview on dzBB radio early Monday. He said the rains that fell on parts of Metro Manila Sunday afternoon are not expected to continue falling in the next few days. Last Sunday, rains were reported to have poured in Manila, Quezon City, Taguig, and Makati in the National Capital Region (NCR), and Antipolo City and Angono in Rizal province. The rains were accompanied by cool breeze. Meanwhile, PAGASA's 5 a.m. bulletin said a wind convergence is affecting Mindanao and Eastern Visayas. "Mindanao and Eastern Visayas will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms. The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to at times cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms," it said. It added moderate to strong winds blowing from the east and northeast will prevail over the eastern sections of Visayas and Mindanao and coming from the east to southeast over Eastern Luzon and the coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough. Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate blowing from the east and northeast with slight to moderate seas. — RSJ, GMANews.TV
