Tension mars students' demo at CHED — report

Tension marred a demonstration by militant students at the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) office in Quezon City Monday. Radio dzBB's Manny Vargas reported some 30 militant youths engaged CHED guards in a pushing match and damaged the gate of the agency's compound. At the time, the students were protesting tuition increases in colleges and universities for the coming school year.

They particularly protested a supposed plan by the Polytechnic University of the Philippines to hike tuition rates. They likewise challenged presidential candidates to address the problem of high tuition rates. The rally ended peacefully as the students left by Monday noon. — RSJ, GMANews.TV
