Train derailed in Manila due to stolen metal clips

A train was derailed in Manila Tuesday afternoon, forcing the Philippine National Railways to temporarily suspend southbound trips. Radio dzBB on Wednesday reported that the train went off track at about 3 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, as it was preparing to leave the Tutuban Station for a southbound run to Sucat in Parañaque City. While no one was reported injured, an initial investigation showed the derailment stemmed from missing metal clips holding the rails in place. Police suspect that that thieves in the area had stolen the metal clips to sell them to junk shops. The theft of metal rail parts and their sale to junk shops had hounded the PNR in past years. — LBG, GMANews.TV
