Carlo Caparas’ SUV catches fire, no one hurt

Filipino comics novelist and movie director Carlo J. Caparas' sports utility vehicle caught fire on Wednesday morning at the Skyway’s toll booth along the South Superhighway, radio dzBB reported. The fire started at the engine compartment of Caparas' Dodge Ram at 6:50 a.m., the report quoted Skyway radio operator Leo Estudillo as saying. Two toll booths were also damaged by the fire, the report added. The driver and Caparas’ children CJ and Peach, who were in the car, emerged unhurt from the incident. In a phone-patch interview on Unang Hirit, Caparas said that when his children noticed smoke in the car, they immediately went out. "Ayon sa mga anak ko, natutulog sila sa sasakyan nang biglang umusok ang sasakyan. Nang bumaba sila, e, may apoy na," Caparas told Unang Hirit's Arnold Clavio. "May kalumaan na ang Road Trek na yan... na ginagamit kapag may taping sa labas. Siguro nag-overheat kaya nagkaganyan," Caparas added. The traffic build up on the north-bound lane of the Skyway eased as the razed vehicle was towed away by the Skyway Patrol for further investigation, Estudillo told GMANews.TV in a separate interview. — Nikka Corsino/LBG/RSJ, GMANews.TV
