Laguna Lake agency links up with GMA Network for marathon relay event

GMA Network has been tapped by the Laguna Lake Development Authority (LLDA) as its media partner for the grueling two-day, 200-kilometer Ultra Marathon Relay—the longest marathon in the Philippines that will span five provinces as well as portions of Metro Manila surrounding Laguna de Bay. Through its partnership with industry leader GMA Network, the LLDA has moved one big step further in raising public awareness about its conservation projects in the Laguna de Bay Region. The marathon run around the country’s largest lake—and the second largest in Southeast Asia—will be held on May 1 and 2.

Teams of five members each will race their way from Fontera Verde in Pasig City, through the provinces of Rizal, Laguna, Batangas, Cavite, and Quezon, to the finish line at the Laguna Provincial Capitol in Sta. Rosa, Laguna on Day One. On Day Two, the teams will run the same route but in the reverse direction. Open to experienced and inexperienced runners alike, the marathon aims to promote the values of environmental consciousness, bayanihan (community spirit of mutual aid), and teamwork to benefit the preservation and protection of the watershed areas and the Lake itself. According to the organizers, a registration fee of P2,500 will be collected from each participating team, with proceeds going to the Galalan Community Bamboo Forest Project based in Pangil, Laguna, and the Laguna de Bay Integrated Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Management Council. The top team will receive a cash prize of P350,000, while the second, third, fourth, and fifth placers will get P200,000, P100,000, P75,000, and P50,000, respectively. A consolation prize of P10,000 shall be awarded to teams who will make it to the top six to ten bracket. GMA Network chairman, president, and CEO Atty. Felipe L. Gozon welcomed the partnership with the LLDA. “GMA Network has done several initiatives to promote environmental conservation. We are more than willing to help the LLDA in their efforts to preserve our natural resources," Gozon said.
