‘Agaton’ weakens into low-pressure area

"Agaton," the first tropical cyclone in Philippine territory for this year, weakened on Saturday afternoon into a low-pressure area in the Philippine Sea, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said (Pagasa). Pagasa said "Agaton" (international code name Omais) was estimated at 1,040 km east of Basco, Batanes as of 2 p.m. Saturday. In its 5 p.m. bulletin, Pagasa said a diffused tail-end of a cold front is affecting the eastern sections of Northern and Central Luzon, while a wind convergence is affecting Eastern Mindanao. "The eastern sections of Northern and Central Luzon will experience mostly cloudy skies with scattered light rains while, Northern and Eastern Mindanao will have mostly cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms," it said. The rest the country will be partly cloudy to at times cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms, it added. Moderate to strong winds blowing from the northeast will prevail over Luzon and Visayas and the coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough. Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate blowing from the northeast to north with slight to moderate seas.—JV, GMANews.TV
