Govt help sought for slain Pinay in Singapore

The family of the slain Filipino woman in Singapore has asked the Philippine government to help bring justice to her death. In a report in GMA News’ “24 Oras," Rizalina Pascua, the mother of 30-year-old Roselyn Pascua, called on President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo to assist them in their quest for justice. Roselyn was found dead in a rented apartment in Bencoolen Street in Singapore before dawn on March 15. She had stab wounds in different parts of her body.

“Ang bait-bait ng anak ko. Bakit siya pinatay nang ganyan? Gusto kong mabigyan man lang ng katarungan ang anak ko. Kawawa ang anak niya (My daughter was very kind. Why was she killed? I only hope that justice will be served. I pity her child)," Rizalina said. Roselyn had an 11-year-old daughter. Roselyn’s remains, which arrived in Manila last Friday, lie in state at the chapel of Barangay Patimbao in Sta. Cruz town in Laguna. Singaporean authorities have arrested a 34-year-old Indian national believed to have robbed and killed her. The Philippine Embassy in Singapore said Roselyn entered the island city-state on February 3 as a tourist and extended her social visit pass until April 4. She was staying alone in a rented room at the Peony Mansion when the incident occurred. The police initially identified five suspects, including three Filipino women and two Thai men. Based on Embassy records, there are about 160,360 Filipinos in Singapore, including over 50,000 who are classified as irregular or undocumented migrants. Most of the Filipino workers there are domestic service workers and computer programmers and analysts. - KBK, GMANews.TV
