Color coding lifted from Tuesday until Friday in Metro Manila

Holy week observers and non-religious vacationers alike have one less travel nuisance to contend with as the number coding scheme will be lifted tomorrow until Friday. Normally, the Unified Vehicular Volume Reduction Program (UVVRP), popularly known as color coding, limits vehicles on the roads from 7 AM to 7 PM with a window period in certain areas on weekdays. The lifting of the UVVRP is to ensure public convenience this Holy Week, Metro Manila Development Authority Chairman Oscar Inocentes said in a statement. However, heavy traffic as a result of the free-for-all may prove to be more of an inconvenience. To address this, the MMDA will participate in the DOTC assistance program Oplan Semana Santa. The MMDA will also deploy at least 1,000 traffic enforcers in major thoroughfares including Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue as well as exit points from Metro Manila, it said. The deployment is part of MMDA Traffic and Transport Management Office’s participation in the Lakbay Alalay project. The MMDA Roadside Emergency Group is also ready to help those who need assistance. - GMANews.TV
