CBCP website allows OFWs to participate in Visita Iglesia

Despite living and working abroad, Filipino Catholics around the world will be able to participate in Visita Iglesia, the tradition of visiting and praying in seven churches during Maundy Thursday. This is because the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) has launched a special portal in its website, Monsignor Pedro Quitorio, the group’s media director said. The special portal will allow overseas Filipino workers, especially those who are restricted from going to Church, to participate in the Visita Iglesia. By logging onto the CBCP website, net users can visit seven famous churches in the country such as the Manila Cathedral Basilica and San Agustin Church in Intramuros, Manila; Minor Basilica of the Black Nazarene in Quiapo, Manila; San Lorenzo Ruiz Church and Sto. Niño de Tondo Parish in Tondo, Manila; Nuestra Senora de Remedios in Malate, Manila; and Our Lady of Perpetual Help Shrine in Parañaque. While the portal will also feature the Siete Palabras — known as the Seven Last Words — and the Stations of the Cross with the corresponding prayers, Quitorio said that there may be “limits" to what the group can place online. After all, the feature may encourage people skip attending mass in Church. “That should be taken as a substitute on an extreme situation when you cannot make it. Because some people might opt not to go to church since its available online," he said. - GMANews.TV
