1M ballots moved to Manila after printing office runs out of space

One million ballots have been moved to the Foreign Service Mail Distribution Center (FSMDC) in Manila after the National Printing Office (NPO) in Quezon City ran out of space, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said. Some 1,528 ballot packs — containing a million ballots for Leyte — comprised the first batch to be transferred because it was the latest printed, Comelec Commissioner Gregorio Larrazabal told reporters. The move made for easier access from the limited storage space at the NPO, Larrazabal explained. "The most logical province taken out was Leyte," he added. Ballots for the May polls are currently being printed at the NPO. About 27 million of the more than 50 million ballots needed have been produced. The commissioner said that the political parties were notified about the transfer. "Bangon Pilipinas was there, Bangon Pilipinas did not complain," he said. He added that they do not have to worry about the security of the ballots at the FSMDC. "There is an audit of the ballots," he said. Larrazabal said that they plan to move the ballots for Romblon and Quezon next. - RJAB Jr., GMANews.TV
