Vatican liturgical rites until Easter to be streamed live on Internet

Pope Benedict XVI’s liturgical celebrations until Easter will be streamed live on the Internet, the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines announced late Thursday. Internet users will have access to live webcasts from St. Peter’s Square pictures, and other online news reports. Live audio commentaries in English, French, Italian, German, and Spanish are also available. The broadcasts are a multimedia initiative of the Pontifical Council for Social Communications, launched in May to bring Pope Benedict’s message to the young Internet users worldwide, the CBCP added. The broadcasts were brought about by Pope2You, and H2oNews, a Catholic multimedia news agency collaborating with the Vatican Television Centre and the Holy See’s internet service. On Thursday, the CBCP announced the usage of the popular video-sharing website YouTube in sharing Lenten messages and reflections of local Catholic bishops. Former CBCP head Archbishop Angel Lagdameo's Holy Week reflections, among others available on the CBCP YouTube account, are also meant to reach a wider Catholic audience, including overseas workers. — Nikka Corsino/LGB/RSJ, GMANews.TV
