4 vacationers drown in 3 incidents in Batangas province


At least four vacationers were killed in mishaps that took place in beaches in Batangas province during the Holy Week. Radio dzBB on Sunday cited reports reaching Batangas police chief Senior Superintendent Alberto Supapo identifying the first victim as Timoteo Reyes. Reyes, 19, of Mabini town, was sailing with a friend at Balayan Bay in Mabini when big waves caused their boat to capsize at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The victim was thrown off the water and drowned. His body was retrieved around 50 meters away from the coastline the next day. In Lemery town, Gener Bolante of Lipa City drowned while swimming along the beach of Balayan Bay with friends at 9 a.m. on Maundy Thursday. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but doctors declared him dead on arrival. Meanwhile, Jenilyn Bathan, 20, and Roger Patrick Malaluan, 22, of the University of the Philippines-Diliman in Quezon City, drowned while swimming at Pansipit River at 5:30 p.m. on Good Friday. — NPA, GMANews.TV
