Palace exec: Arroyo’s Vietnam, US trips to push through

Because her husband’s health condition is improving, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo can now resume her normal work schedule, including her planned trip to Vietnam and the United States this month. Executive Secretary Leandro Mendoza told reporters in Pampanga on Monday that Mrs. Arroyo’s trips to the two countries will push through. The President was in the province to celebrate her 63rd birthday in her hometown Lubao. Mrs. Arroyo is set to attend the 16th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit and Related Meetings in Hanoi, Vietnam from April 8 to 9. After Vietnam, she will fly to Washington DC in the United States to join President Barack Obama and other world leaders in the Global Nuclear Summit on April 12 to 13. Radio dzBB’s Nimfa Ravelo also reported that the President’s trip to Madrid, Spain, on April 15 to 16 will also push through. Mrs. Arroyo is set to meet King Juan Carlos I and Queen Sofia in the trip. In the past two weeks, Mrs. Arroyo had worked at the bedside of First Gentleman Jose Miguel Arroyo, who was rushed to the hospital last March 25 after suffering a heart problem. Last week, St. Luke’s Medical Center at the Fort Bonifacio Global City in Taguig said Mr. Arroyo’s health condition is already stable. On Monday, Mendoza also said the President can now attend normal functions in Malacañang because of the First Gentleman’s stable health condition. — with a report by Sophia Dedace/LBG, GMANews.TV
