Jason Ivler to share cell with 20 foreign detainees

Jason Ivler, who has American citizenship, will share a special cell at the Quezon City Jail’s second floor with some 22 other “foreigner" detainees, Radio dzBB reported. The road rage suspect will be placed at the “international cell," said one of the personnel identified only as Sgt. Alcantara. The facility has already been prepared for Ivler detention by personnel of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP). A separate report by dzBB's Rowena Salvacion said the BJMP assured security at the international cell will be sufficient to hold Ivler. The report added many of the jail's inmates were "excited" to see Ivler, who gained notoriety for shooting it out with government agents last year. But Alcantara said Ivler's transfer will not affect daily operations at the jail, including visits to the inmates. "Tuloy ang regular na dalaw sa araw na ito. Di magbago kahit na sabihing high-risk at high-profile (The visits and other everyday operations will continue even if a high-risk and high-profile inmate is brought in)," he said. Ivler was arrested and wounded last Jan. 18, after shooting it out with National Bureau of Investigation agents in his Quezon City house. He was the main suspect in the road-rage shooting of Renato Victor Ebarle Jr., whose father is with the Office of the Presidential Chief of Staff. Alcantara said Ivler was expected to go through the jail's record section, and undergo a medical checkup before being brought to his cell. - RJAB Jr., GMANews.TV
