Ebarle family hears Mass after Ivler's transfer to QC jail

The family of the man Jason Ivler allegedly killed during a traffic altercation has expressed elation over his transfer from hospital to a city jail. “The family was elated upon hearing the news. Although the commitment order was long overdue, nevertheless we are happy for his [Ivler] transfer," said Presidential Management Staff Undersecretary Renato Victor Ebarle Sr. Ebarle’s 27-year-old son, Renato Jr., was gunned down in November last year in Quezon City while on his way home. Investigation pointed to Ivler, nephew of folk singer Freddie Aguilar, as the suspect. Ebarle said his family heard a Thanksgiving Mass and visited Ebarle Jr’s grave to inform him of the “latest development." “We appeal also for prayers so that justice will given to our son," he said, adding that Ebarle Jr. would have turned 28 in May if he was still alive. The elder Ebarle denied pressuring officials of the Quirino Memorial Medical Center (QMMC) to release Ivler so that he could be transferred to the Quezon City jail as alleged by Ivler’s mother, Marlene Aguilar-Pollard. Ivler had been in QMMC since January 18, the day he was arrested after shooting it out with agents of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI). He was moved to the Quezon City jail last Tuesday upon orders from the court. Prior to the killing of Ebarle Jr., Ivler was already facing homicide charges in Pasig City for figuring in a road accident that killed Office of the President Undersecretary Nestor Ponce Jr. in August 2004. – KBK, GMANews.TV
