2 firefighters hurt in Valenzuela fire

Two firefighters were hurt while dousing a fire inside a lumber warehouse in Valenzuela City on Friday. The fire that reached Task Force Alpha as of this posting, started at 11:16 a.m. inside the warehouse along P. Santiago Street in Paso de Blas village. QTV's Live on Q quoted authorities as identifying the injured victims as fire volunteer Roberto Santiago, who sustained second-degree burns; and Fire Officer 2 Renato Alonzo, who was hit by a hard object. The report said fire trucks have already been deployed to the area. But firefighters are having a hard time putting out the fire not only because the lumbers inside the warehouse are combustible but also due to the lack of water sources in the area. Firemen are still awaiting the arrival of the chemical foam they would also be using to douse the blaze. Fire Superintendent Juan Reyes, district director of the Bureau of Fire Protection in Camanava (Caloocan-Malabon-Navotas-Valenzuela) area, said the fire has already been contained, even as he assured that it will no longer spread to a nearby residential area. Reyes, in a separate interview on radio dzBB, pegged the damage to property at around P5 million. — Mark Merueñas/LBG/RSJ, GMANews.TV
