Firefighters place Valenzuela fire under control after 15 hours

Fifteen hours after it broke out, the blaze that engulfed a lumber warehouse in Valenzuela City was finally put under control early Saturday morning. Fire officials had difficulty dousing the fire that started past 11 a.m. Friday, inside a warehouse along P. Santiago Street in Paso de Blas village, due to the type of materials fire devoured. "[Pero] confined na po iyong lugar dahil may sarili naman silang firewall," Senior Inspector Rodolfo de Guzman, chief of operations of the Valenzuela Fire, told GMA News on Saturday. The fire reached Task Force Alpha before firefighters declared it under control at about 2:30 a.m. of Saturday. De Guzman said they were just closely securing the area to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby residences. "Ang iniiwasan namin ay ang alipato na maaring mapunta sa ibang kabahayan at baka magkasunog na naman," he said. Workers from the burning warehouse even managed to collect other lumbers that were not razed by the fire. Damage to property was pegged at around P5 million. — Mark Merueñas/LBG, GMANews.TV
