Meralco: 1-hour rotating brownouts set Tuesday

From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, some customers of power utility Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) would experience one-hour rotating brownouts. Dina Lomotan, Meralco’s senior public relations representative for external communications, said there is a "power shortage" because of a tube leak in the Calaca power plant in Batangas. "But the maintenance is ongoing," Lomotan said in an interview on Unang Balita, a segment in GMA News and Public Affairs’ Unang Hirit. The areas that could be affected by the power interruptions are portions of Metro Manila, Bulacan, Rizal, Quezon, Cavite, Batangas, and other villages in Candaba town in Pampanga province.

Meralco’s website has not yet specified which areas would experience the brownouts. Lomotan likewise said that maintenance work in Meralco’s Los Baños, Laguna substation is causing power interruptions in the municipality. The Unang Balita listed the following villages that could be affected in Los Baños: Lalakay, Bambang, Mayondon, Bayog, Anos, Kabatiran, Santo Domingo, San Antonio, Tagumpay, Dita, Batong, Batong Malaki, and Maahas. — Sophia Dedace/RSJ, GMANews.TV
