8 dead, 51 others hurt in Kalinga road crash


At least eight people were killed and 51 were injured after a mini-bus fell into a ravine in Tabuk City in Kalinga province Tuesday afternoon. Radio dwIZ cited initial reports reaching Kalinga police chief Senior Superintendent Virgilio Laya indicating the incident occurred at 2 p.m. Tuesday. Laya said the "Lovely Mae" bus driven by one Joseph Maiyao fell into the ravine while negotiating a curve in Naneng village in Tabuk. Initial investigation showed Maiyao lost control of the bus (AYA-268) and it fell off the bridge and into the gully. Among the fatalities were Army soldier Jamarie Ricardo; Christopher Cuesta, 24; Samson Au-as; Jojo Bauonoya; Chinya Fokyas; Boy Alunday; Francis Macling; and Shanalyn Cawilan, 19. The 51 injured were rushed to the Kalinga Provincial Hospital for treatment. Police are still investigating the incident. — LBG, GMANews.TV
