Politicos' supporters defy order vs campaign ribbons in Bacolod

BACOLOD CITY - Despite efforts from the local Commission on Elections here, ribbons sporting the colors of presidential candidates continued to litter this city. Green, yellow and orange ribbons were tied not only to trees and posts but even to guardrails along main thoroughfares in the city.

These are aside from posters of candidates running for national and local posts in the coming elections. Last Monday, the Comelec began removing the ribbons sprouting around Bacolod City and Negros Occidental, according to a report on Visayan Daily Star. Elections Provincial Supervisor Jessie Suarez said the ribbons are identifiable with certain presidential candidates and are considered illegal campaign material outside the common poster area. He said the Comelec is working to remove all illegal campaign material outside the common poster area in weekly operations. He said Comelec personnel are to conduct removal operations on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. — LBG, GMANews.TV
