Pinay helper in UAE admits trying to throw baby from 13th floor

A Filipina domestic helper in the United Arab Emirates has pleaded guilty to the charge of attempting to kill her Egyptian employer’s baby by throwing it off their apartment building’s 13th floor. In a report on the website of the UAE-based Khaleej Times, the 30-year-old helper admitted endangering the life of the infant in a Court of Misdemeanours hearing on April 12. According to the report, the helper was spotted by police officers patrolling the street as she was carrying the five-month-old baby near the railing of the apartment on the 13th floor of a building. Having seen the police officers, the helper went back to the apartment and was subsequently taken into custody. The helper later admitted it was her intention to throw the baby off. The report further stated the maid wanted to get back at her employer’s wife, whom she accused of beating her up and pulling her hair. The helper claimed she came to the country to work as a cook, but her Egyptian sponsors made her to also take care of their child. According to the helper, when she refused, the wife beat her up. The judge is set to pronounce a verdict on April 26.—Jerrie M. Abella/JV, GMANews.TV
