Man killed, 21 others hurt in jeep-truck smashup in Rizal


A man died while several others emerged hurt after a dump truck hit a jeepney filled with passengers in Antipolo City in Rizal province Saturday. PO2 Norjie de Gracia of the Antipolo Police Station said the gravel-carrying truck was traveling on the highway in Sta. Cruz village when the driver lost control of the vehicle and hit the passenger jeepney at 9 a.m. The force of the collision sent the jeepney crashing into a house. As of this posting, authorities are still trying to pull the driver of the dump truck out of his vehicle after being pinned when it hit an electrical post. The victims were rushed to the Amang Rodriguez Hospital in neighboring Marikina City. One of the victims included a three-year-old child. The person killed in the incident was identified as Francisco de Castro. Doctors said he died from heart attack. "Tumawag yung guard sa Amang Rodriguez, patay na raw yung driver ng jeepney [The hospital guard told us the driver of the jeepney had already died]," De Gracia told radio dzBB in an interview.
