Australian commits suicide in Butuan City

BUTUAN CITY — A 72-year-old Australian man was found dead by his wife and son inside his car at the garage of his house in the city, police said Saturday. Butuan City Police identified the victim as Toby Gorden, 72, married to a Filipina and a resident of Purok 13-B Barangay San Vicente. Initial police investigation showed that the Australian died of suffocation after locking himself up inside his Nissan sedan with its exhaust stuck inside the car. The victims’ wife, Menyelita Chua Gorden, 64, claimed she and her son (a policeman) discovered the body of her husband inside the car. Police said the victim, who was allegedly suffering from migraine, had left a suicide note before committing suicide. In the suicide note, the Australian claimed he couldn’t take any longer the pain after most of his loved ones in Australia deserted him.
