New Comelec mock poll to prove its ability to serve voters on May 10

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) will conduct another round of mock polls to prove that it will be able to serve 1,000 voters in each precinct on election day. The poll body, together with the Management Association of the Philippines, the Makati Business Club, and several information technology experts, decided to conduct a simulated elections, Comelec Commissioner Gregorio Larrazabal said on Monday. The move was made to prove that all the 50,723,734 registered voters expected to flock the 76,340 clustered precincts nationwide on May 10 would be able to vote. “It’s basically the ability to process 1,000 voters within 11 hours…we would like to focus on the voting," said the commissioner. Voting will be done from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on May 10. Earlier, the Comelec said that those who are in line to the precinct even after 6 p.m. may still be accommodated by the board of election inspectors (BEI). Larrazabal said that the poll body has yet to finalize the details of the mock elections, save for details that it will be held soon. Earlier, the poll body held a mock polls at the Senate, which poll watchdog Kontra Daya said proved that 11 hours is not enough to accommodate all the voters on election day. - RJAB Jr., GMANews.TV
