Report: 3 hurt in 3-vehicle predawn smashup in QC

Three people were reported injured while traffic along a portion of Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) in Quezon City was snarled following a three-vehicle predawn smashup Wednesday. Radio dzBB’s Roland Bola reported rescue workers had to use hydraulic equipment to get to two of the victims who were pinned inside a closed van, one of the vehicles in the accident. "Bigla ang preno niya, pumreno ako pero di kinaya ng preno (The dump truck in front of me suddenly stopped. I hit the brakes but could not slow down soon enough)," said the driver of the van, who was not immediately identified.

The incident occurred before 5 a.m. near the Quezon Avenue flyover at the corner of Quezon Avenue and the southbound portion of EDSA. It snarled traffic near the Cubao area, as only two lanes of EDSA were opened to traffic. Shards of broken glass were scattered at the accident scene. Initial investigation showed the dump truck suddenly braked, causing the van to hit its rear. The dump truck also hit another vehicle in front of it, the dzBB report said. — RSJ, GMANews.TV
