Malacañang reiterates that poll failure concerns are baseless

Concerns regarding the possible failure of elections are "baseless," Executive Secretary Leandro Mendoza reiterated on Wednesday. President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo seeks a "smooth transfer of governance as a punctuation mark to her legacy of accomplishments. That, we guarantee you, will take place," Mendoza said. The nationwide automated elections would be one of the Arroyo government’s legacies, he added. But at the same time, Malacañang has drafted contingency plans that will ensure that “peace and order will remain manageable." The Presidential Management Staff (PMS), which provides staff support for the President and the Cabinet, has also been created to ensure a smooth turnover between the Arroyo administration and the next President. The PMS — currently headed by Secretary Maria Elena Bautista — is trying to copy turnover models during the Aquino and Ramos administrations, Mendoza said. “The President is really bent on turning over power to the next elected President," he said. - RJAB Jr., GMANews.TV
