'Gibo' posters sprout in Manila despite clean-up drive

Despite a new drive to eliminate illegal campaign materials in Metro Manila, new posters of administration standard bearer Gilberto "Gibo" Teodoro Jr. sprouted in parts of the Philippine capital early Thursday. The posters, featuring a simple green-and-white design, were placed on walls and posts in the city of Manila's historic Intramuros district. "GIBO President... Panalo tayo sa number 8 sa balota (Gibo for President... We will win with Number 8 in the ballot)," read the posters. Also posted on walls and posts were older posters of Teodoro, featuring his image and the message "G1BO Teodoro President."

The green-and-white posters indicated they were paid for by Teodoro's party, the administration Lakas-Kampi-CMD. The new wave of posters defied a fresh drive by the Commission on Elections and the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to rid the metropolis of illegally placed campaign materials. While MMDA and Comelec managed to remove some of the campaign materials, many remained in parts of Manila as of Thursday. Interestingly, the new posters were put up despite denials by MMDA Chairman Oscar Inocentes that the agency was helping in Teodoro's campaign. The claims came after the MMDA repainted its footbridges in Metro Manila green, Teodoro's campaign color. - LBG, RJAB Jr., GMANews.TV
