Police: 5 killed, 3 hurt in Lanao Sur massacre

PECONG, Lanao del Sur — Five were killed and three others were wounded when a group of armed men attacked a family while asleep in their house in this town last Thursday, a police official said Friday. In a text message to GMANews.TV, Senior Supt. Paniares Adap, Lanao del Sur police chief, said the massacre happened around 12:30 a.m. Thursday at the Nanggay residence in Barangay Baraas. Adap said a group of armed men strafed the house while the family was sleeping, resulting in the death of five people. A police report identified the victims as Mamadra 65, Ituh, 63, Mona 35, Asnah 5, and Babual, 2, of the Nanggay family. Those wounded were Araft, Pamila and Orak, who were rushed to the Baroy Hospital in Baroy town in Lanao del Norte. The police identified one of the suspects as Camping Macaurong, who allegedly led three other gunmen who fled right after the massacre. Police recovered empty shells of M16 rifles at the crime scene.
