NPA rebels torch logging equipment in Agusan Sur
BUTUAN CITY—An estimated 60-member band of suspected New People’s Army rebels burned heavy logging equipment in Loreto town, Agusan del Sur Thursday morning, a belated report from the Caraga Police Regional office here said. After they burned the equipment at Sitio Kuyambog, Barangay Kasapa, the rebels dumped a D7 bulldozer, a V12 dump truck, and an 850-TCM Michigan pay loader into a deep ravine in the area, police said. Three other equipment—a D8 bulldozer, a forward dump truck, a 125-TCM Michigan pay loader—were also burned in the same area, according to the report. Police said all the destroyed equipment were owned by Extensive Wood Processing Corporation, a logging firm based in Barangay Silco, La Paz town, also in Agusan del Sur. The police said they could not yet give an estimated value of the damage since investigation is still on-going.—Ben Serrano/JV, GMANews.TV
