Quiboloy drops hints on ‘personal’ presidential bet

Davao City—In what could be taken as a hint on whom his congregation will support in the May 10 elections, religious leader Pastor Apollo Quiboloy on Sunday said his personal choice for president is “magaling at matalino (competent and intelligent)." “Galing and Talino," incidentally, is the campaign slogan of administration standard bearer Gilberto Teodoro Jr. It also corresponds to his initials, G. T. Quiboloy, who was celebrating his 60th birthday Sunday, did not say if he was referring to Teodoro but clarified that it was just his personal choice and not based on “God’s revelation." “Personally ako bilang tao katulad ninyo meron akong gusto, sa akin lang yun (As a voter I have my choice), but that has to take the backseat when it comes to God’s revelation to me. I have to sacrifice myself for that," he said. Quiboloy, founder and leader of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KJC), said he would make the announcement in a big rally on May 2. The group claims to have over six million members including those outside the country. He said he had met with most of the candidates and is familiar with their platforms.

Motives “I have known their stand and most of them have come to be admired by me the way they stood on their platform. The only thing that I would like from the Father as guidance is what is really in their heart, the motive of their heart," he said. Quiboloy was supposed to announce his group’s endorsements Sunday, but said he decided to defer it pending “revelation from God." “As of now there is no clear revelation like I had in the last two presidential elections [when] months before I already had the sure revelation from God, so I told the people concerned about it without any qualms at all. Now I’m wondering, I already gave my cut-off date, which is today, my birthday today, but there is still none," he said. Dreams The religious leader said that if no “revelations" came on or before May 2, he would weigh his options “between the previous revelations I had." He was referring to his dreams involving the late President Corazon Aquino asking him to endorse her son, Liberal Party standard bearer Sen Benigno “Noynoy" Aquino III; and his own mother asking him to support Nacionalista Party bet Manuel Villar Jr. He said he has to make a decision because his congregation, especially those abroad, are waiting for it. Quiboloy endorsed the presidential bid of Joseph Estrada in the 1998 elections, and Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in 2004. Both were victorious. Meanwhile, Quiboloy said he had already received God's revelation regarding the vice presidential bet whom they will support, but said it would be part of their announcement on May 2. “Meron ako sa VP (We’ve already picked our vice president). You will come to know about that this May 2," he said. - KBK, GMANews.TV
