Suspected rebels disarm reelectionist Bislig mayor's security men

BUTUAN CITY — About 100 suspected New People's Army (NPA) rebels reportedly blocked and disarmed the convoy of reelectionist Bislig City Mayor Alberto Tan over the weekend, a belated police report said. The report said the rebels blocked the path of the convoy along Road 13 in Bislig City while on their way to Sitio Mamparasan in San Roque village dawn of Saturday, according to a report from the Caraga Police Regional Information Office. The report said the rebels asked Tan why he utilized Army troops as his advance security in the area. It added that the insurgents seized th firearms being carried by Tan's security personnel. Authorities have since conducted pursuit operations against the rebels. Tan is pitted against outgoing Surigao del Sur Vice Governor Librado Navarro of Lakas. Navarro is the brother of rebel priest Fr. Rudy Navarro. — Ben Serrano/RSJ, GMANews.TV
