LPA to bring rains over Visayas, Mindanao

While there is little chance of it becoming a cyclone, a low-pressure area (LPA) is expected to bring rains to parts of Visayas and Mindanao on Tuesday. The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the LPA was estimated at 80 km west of Cotabato City or 140 km East of Zamboanga City as of 2 a.m. “Visayas and Mindanao will experience cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms becoming widespread rains over Western Mindanao. The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms," it said in its 5 a.m. bulletin. Last Monday, PAGASA forecaster Ben Oris said there is little chance the LPA will intensify into a cyclone. Had the LPA become a cyclone, it would be code-named “Basyang." Meanwhile, PAGAS said moderate to strong winds blowing from the East to Northeast will prevail over Mindanao and coming from the East over the eastern sections of Luzon and Visayas and the coastal waters along these areas will be moderate to rough. Elsewhere, light to moderate winds blowing from the East to Northeast will prevail with slight to moderate seas. — LBG, GMANews.TV
