Comelec to place LCD projectors in canvassing centers

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has ordered local government units to provide each municipal, city, provincial, and district board of canvassers liquid crystal display (LCD) projectors for canvassing the election results on May 10. In a two-page resolution promulgated on April 23, the Comelec ruled that the board of canvassers must use the LCD projectors to display the contents of the Consolidated Canvassing System (CCS) during the counting “to bolster the transparency of the election results." The LCD projector is the latest addition to the CCS, which is comprised of a laptop, a modem, and a printer. The devices will be used to monitor, canvass, transmit, and print consolidated election results. The poll body called on the Department of Interior and Local Government to see to it that local government units carry out the said resolution. Earlier, Cagayan de Oro Rep. Rufus Rodriguez asked the poll body to provide a large screen to each precinct and canvassing unit so that election results could be displayed as they come in. The Comelec will post the results almost at the same time as the data is sent on a secured website provided by poll machine supplier Smartmatic-TIM. —Jacques I. Jimeno, GMANews.TV
