Cops track down arsonist in Bulacan Comelec office fire

Police in Bulacan province are now tracking down an arsonist who set on fire the Commission on Elections (Comelec) office in Bulacan province Monday night. Radio dzBB reported early Wednesday the fire destroyed voters' registration records in the Comelec office in Obando town. Local police said the leads they gathered so far indicated the fire was deliberate, and likely the work of groups seeking to cause a failure of elections in the area.

The fire broke out at 11 p.m. Monday at the Comelec office and was put out after 30 minutes. Initial investigation showed the fire was started with cigarette lighter fluid. But despite the damage, local Comelec officials said there was no cause for panic as they can reconstruct the burned documents from the Comelec's provincial and head offices. — LBG/RSJ, GMANews.TV
