1 hurt, traffic snarled in predawn accident on EDSA

A truck driver was injured while traffic along Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) in Quezon City was snarled after an accident involving two large trucks before dawn Friday. Radio dzBB reported that the incident occurred before 5 a.m. on the portion of EDSA near Muñoz in Quezon City, where a truck carrying soft drinks slammed a truck carrying concrete. The driver of the truck carrying soft drinks, who was not immediately identified, was injured and rushed to a nearby hospital. The incident snarled traffic on both northbound and southbound portions of EDSA, as the wayward truck crossed the center island and blocked some lanes on both portions of the highway. A report by dzBB's Manny Vargas said the lanes were reopened to traffic past 7 a.m., more than two hours after the accident. Initial investigation showed the truck carrying concrete was parked on the side of the road after one of its tires was busted, but the truck with soft drinks snagged on it. Due to the accident, traffic on the northbound part of EDSA backed up all the way to the TriNoMa area, while traffic at the southbound part backed up all the way to Balintawak. — LBG/RSJ, GMANews.Tv
