DTI to seize toxic, lewd school supplies

As the school opening in June draws near, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has begun cracking down on the sale of school supplies with toxic materials and notebooks with lewd covers. Radio dzBB on Saturday reported that DTI Secretary Jesli Lapus ordered the seizure of these school materials sold in bookstores and other outlets. Lapus, a former education secretary, said he has received reports that some bookstores sell notebooks with covers featuring models in “states of undress or in suggestive or provocative poses." He also said he received reports of some school items being sold at low prices might contain harmful chemicals. Also, he said manufacturers or vendors of such items might face sanctions if caught. — LBG, GMANews.TV
