PAGASA: Planets visible on last weekend before May 10 polls

Stargazers can get a glimpse of six planets on the weekend before the May 10 elections, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said. PAGASA head Prisco Nilo said Venus, Mars and Saturn would be visible on May 7, while Uranus, Jupiter and Neptune can be seen on May 8. In the state weather bureau's astronomical diary, Nilo said Venus would be found around 7 p.m. while Mars and Saturn would be seen at 9 p.m. on Friday. Uranus, Jupiter, and Neptune would be seen about 4 a.m. on Saturday, he added. “Jupiter and Neptune will lie among the background stars of the constellation Aquarius, the Water Bearer while Uranus will be found among the stars of the constellation Pisces, the Fish. A modest size telescope will be needed to observe Neptune and the Blue-Green planet, Uranus," Nilo said. Meanwhile, Nilo added that days would get longer in the Philippines as the summer season peaks. It said the summer solstice, the day of the year with the longest daylight period and the shortest night, might occur in June. — with Sophia Dedace/LBG, GMANews.TV
