Shalani says she's 'hurt' by allegations about Noynoy's mental health

Valenzuala City councilor Shalani Soledad on Saturday defended beau Sen. Benigno Aquino III from allegations of poor mental health. In an interview with GMA News Saturday, Soledad said the black propaganda against her boyfriend had taken a toll on her emotionally. "Nakakasakit kasi hindi totoo eh. Kung wala ka na lang magandang sasabihin, huwag ka na lang manira (It hurts because the allegations are not true. Those who have nothing good to say against him should stop tarnishing his reputation)," Soledad said. The re-electionist councilor talked to GMA News in the wake of a second fake report on Aquino's mental health and amid calls for the Liberal Party’s standard-bearer to have a psychiatric test. The bogus report, released to the media by former National Power Corp. president Guido Delgado, alleged that Aquino was suffering from depression. Delgado is a know supporter of the Nacionalista Party. Soledad said those who come out with fraudulent documents should first check the records' authenticity before making them public. "Kapag may ganitong issue, yung naglalabas, bago ito ilabas, alamin nila kung totoo (If there is an issue like this, those who plan to release a report should check the veracity of its contents)," she said. Aquino repeatedly refused to entertain calls for a mental health test. [See: Noynoy: No psychiatric test, that's final] "Who in his right mind will dignify something patently false? I think the one who insists something false is true should be the one to have his head examined," he said last week. During his campaign sortie in La Union and Pangasinan on Saturday, Aquino said the burden of proof should not be on him but on his accusers. "Niyurakan ang pagkatao ko, tapos ako ang kailangang magpaliwanag, ako ang kailangang magpatunay na iyong false ay false talaga (It was I who was maligned, and yet they were asking me to explain and prove that what was false was indeed false)," a report on GMA News' 24 Oras quoted the senator as saying. —LBG/SVD/HS, GMANews.TV
