Floyd Jr beats Mosley by unanimous decision

Floyd Mayweather Jr. provided another reason for a possible blockbuster bout with seven world division champion Manny Pacquiao. His unanimous decision win on Saturday (Sunday in Manila) over the former champion silenced his critics who previously said that he could not get pass a skillful fighter like Mosley. He hiked his ring record to 41-0 with 25 of his victories by way of knockout. It was a one-sided match with the judges all ruling in favor of Mayweather. Two scored the bout 119-109 while the third saw it at 118-110. There was no title at stake in the 147-lb welterweight bout but there's a lot being offered as both are fighting for pride, a huge paycheck with a lot of zeros in it and a possible meeting with Pacquiao. Both fighters began the fight by studying each others moves as if waiting on who will throw the first punch. Mosley even slipped in the first round as he tries to get closer to Mayweather. Mosley then made his move and attacked Mayweather’s defense in the second round as he nearly floored his 33-year-old foe. He unleashed a steady stream of shots that staggered Mayweather, who’s not showing any movement at all. Another right by Mosley stunned Mayweather, who wobbled a little bit, bringing the packed crowd at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada up on its feet. But Mayweather managed to survive that onslaught, bounced back in the third and used his ring smarts to take full control of the bout. From there, Mayweather outboxed his aging opponent. Mayweather, displaying his quickness, then countered Mosley’s attacks with stiff jabs. Mosley tried to fight back but his shots failed to hit its mark as Mayweather, bobbing and weaving, avoided every punch. But as the fight progresses, Mosley loses steam while Mayweather had his second wind to completely dominate his already huffing and puffing foe. Mosley tried to turn things back into his favor and even piled up some points midway in the seventh.

But the age factor could have taken its toll on the 38-year-old fighter as Mayweather pressed on with his left jabs setting up several right straights that connected towards Mosley’s unguarded face. At one point, in the eighth, both fighters traded verbal jabs as they were seen thrash talking. Mayweather continued with his technical proficiency in the latter rounds. Even a late-round pep talk by Mosley trainer Naazim Richardson could not change the outcome of the fight. "You gotta punch with him!," Richardson was heard telling Mosley in a desperate attempt to get his fighter pull something out and save the fight. Flamboyant Floyd Mayweather delayed his march towards the ring as the flamboyant boxer, ever the showman, won’t leave his dressing room wanting to make sure that his entire entourage – which includes an all-male singing group, an Elvis Presley impersonator, jugglers and other circus performers – went out first for his carnival-like grand entrance. Mosley went out first without much fanfare. Gathering of stars A number of Hollywood celebrities were also present to watch 12-round non-title bout.
