Machine glitch delays voting in Noynoy’s precinct

TARLAC CITY, Tarlac - (Updated 3:30 p.m.) After waiting for over four hours, Senator Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III finally got to cast his ballot in his home province. Aquino arrived at the Central Azucarrera de Tarlac elementary school about 15 minutes before 10 a.m., but found a long queue ahead him as the Precinct Count Optical Scan (PCOS) machine in the polling precinct bogged down. Accompanied by his sisters Ballsy Aquino-Cruz and Pinky Aquino-Abellada and some of his nephews, Aquino joined the long line of voters eager to participate in the country's first nationwide automated elections. Aquino was able to enter the precinct a couple of minutes before 2 p.m. Aquino said he did not mind waiting in line for four hours in the scorching heat. "Ang gusto mamuno kailangan maging mahusay na tagapagsunod. Di pwedeng maglilingkod sa taumbayan na sila lang nahirapan kayo hindi (Whoever wants to lead must also be a good follower. You cannot serve the country when only others are having a hard time)," he said. Voting was delayed at the precinct PCOS machine stopped functioning in the middle of reading a ballot. The machine earlier had stopped for a few minutes, supposedly because of a paper jam, a member of the Board of Election Inspectors at the Central Azucarrera de Tarlac Elementary School in Tarlac City said. — VS, GMANews,TV
