Website for poll results now online

(Updated 9:54 p.m.) The Website where the results of Monday's automated elections will automatically be posted is now online despite worries that it might be hacked. The Web site, which may be viewed here, will show the precinct results for the 17 regions and the overseas absentee voting (OAV) once they come in. Voting officially closes at 7 p.m. on Monday. Comelec spokesman James Jimenez said they expect the first round of unconsolidated precinct results to come in Monday evening at about 9 to 10 p.m. He also said they expect to get the bulk of the results at about 3 a.m. on Tuesday. These results will be posted on the Website and will be available to the public. Comelec Commissioner Gregorio Larrazabal had earlier said they delayed the release of the Website's uniform resource locator (URL) to lessen the possible incidents of hacking. Jimenez, meanwhile, explained the inaccurate dates in the Website. "All of the [thousands of] pages were created and uploaded before May 10. Every time a page is refreshed, the date will also refresh. Those already with results were dated May 10, and those without results yet were dated May 9," Jimenez said. Smartmatic Asia president Cesar Flores said the Web site would supposedly be similar to that used by Venezuela in 2008. Meanwhile, the poll body's main Web site had earlier crashed because of the surge of users trying to access the Comelec's precinct finder.
