Arroyo leads race in Pampanga's 2nd district


President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo is leading the congressional race in the second district of Pampanga, based on partial and unofficial canvassing of the Commission on Elections board of canvassers. Mrs. Arroyo dominated elections in four of the six municipalities in the second district that had so far transmitted election returns. In a report aired past 6 a.m. Tuesday, GMA News said the President received a total of 105,329 votes from the municipalities of Guagua, Lubao, Sta. Rita, and Sasmuan. In Guagua, the President got 32,460, while Filipinas Rosario Sampang was a distant second with 1,428 votes. Adonis Simpao came in at the third spot with 789, while Feliciano Serrano got 459 votes.


In Lubao, Mrs. Arroyo earned 48,133 votes; Sampang, 1,318 votes; Simpao, 2,214; and Serrano, 487. In Sta. Rita, the President got 11,872; Sampang, 812; Simpao, 3,426; and Serranno 153. In Sasmuan, 12,864 voters chose Mrs. Arroyo; 472 voted for Sampang;785 voted for Simpao; while 150 voted for Serrano. Arroyo was first to cast a vote at Precinct 0001-A at the Lubao Central Elementary School on Monday. She was accompanied by her eldest son, Rep. Juan Miguel "Mikey" Arroyo. Mrs. Arroyo is aiming to succeed her son Mikey. On the other hand, Mikey is the first nominee of Ang Galing Pinoy party-list group. — LBG/RSJ, GMANews.TV
