Danny Lim first senatorial bet to concede

As partial official results of the May 10 elections began coming in, senatorial aspirant and former Army general Danilo Lim was the first to accept defeat in the senatorial race. Lim, who ranks 17th according to GMA Network's partial and unofficial tally as of 9:31 a.m. on Tuesday, said he bows to the will of the people. Only the top 12 are entitled to Senate seats. "While I am grateful to the generous ones who, in the face of all odds have opted to place their faith in my candidacy, I must respect the majority who have made other choices," he said in a statement issued Tuesday. "It is with my deepest respect for the will of the people that I concede the contest for a seat in the Senate. My good wishes and highest expectations go to the winners of these elections," Lim continued. However, he said his struggle for "genuine freedom and true reform" does not end with his senatorial bid. Lim also thanked those who supported him throughout his campaign. Lim is facing rebellion charges in connection with the November 2007 standoff at the Manila Peninsula Hotel in Makati City and also faces charges of mutiny before a military court in connection with the February 2006 coup. Lim sought a Senate seat under the banner of the Liberal Party and was also a guest candidate of the Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino. — with Sophia Dedace/RSJ/LBG, GMANews.TV
