Loren concedes defeat in vice-presidential race

Nacionalista Party guest candidate Loren Legarda has conceded defeat in the vice presidential race after latest unofficial results showed Makati Mayor Jejomar "Jojo" Binay and Sen. Manuel Roxas III battling neck-and-neck for the vice presidential spot. In a press conference, Legarda said, "Binabati ko ang aking mga kaibigang Noynoy Aquino (Sen. Benigno Simeon Aquino III) at Jojo Binay sa kanilang tagumpay sa ating halalan." (I congratulate my friends Noynoy Aquino and Jojo Binay in their victory in our elections.) Legarda's running mate, Sen. Manuel Villar earlier conceded defeat to Aquino. According to GMA Network's partial and unofficial tally, as of 4:15 p.m. of Tuesday, Binay leads the vice presidential race with 12,802,259 vote with Roxas trailing behind him with a slim margin, 11,949,985. Legarda garnered 3,563,758 votes. Legarda called on the other candidates to "tapusin na natin ang hidwaan.. respetuhin natin ang demokrasya." (Let’s end disagreements.. respect democracy) In 2004, Legarda lost to incumbent Vice President Noli De Castro but she protested the win. She said she will continue to serve the people and fulfill the promises she made in her campaign. - Jacques I. Jimeno, RJAB Jr., GMANews.TV
