Transition team awaits Noynoy camp’s feedback

A day after President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo announced its creation, a Malacañang team is now waiting for the camp of Sen. Benigno Simeon “Noynoy" Aquino III to coordinate the transition from the outgoing to the incoming administration. On Wednesday, deputy presidential spokesman Gary Olivar said the next move in the transition process would be up to the camp of Aquino, who seems headed to victory based on GMA Network's partial and unofficial tally. "Hintayin natin ang katapat na committee mula sa incoming administration (We will just wait for our counterparts from the incoming administration)," Olivar said in an interview on dwIZ radio. But as of Tuesday night, Olivar said there has been no feedback from Aquino’s camp. Olivar said that based on Aquino’s pronouncements, the Palace may have to wait for Congress to formally proclaim him as president-elect. "Ang balak yata ni Sen. Aquino hintayin ang official proclamation. So given that, di ko alam kailan siya magiging handa na magnomina ng tao (sa darating na) administrasyon (Aquino said he would wait for the official proclamation. So given that, I wouldn’t know when he will coordinate with us)," he said. On Tuesday, Aquino told reporters in Tarlac he was not yet claiming victory in the presidential race despite his substantial lead over his rivals. [See: Noynoy won't claim victory yet, but is looking for prospective Cabinet members] Aquino, however, said he has already started forming his Cabinet, indicating he will likely take in former Social Welfare secretary Corazon Soliman. Meanwhile, Olivar said the Palace is ready to set aside some of its facilities for the transition process. "As soon as they request, I believe magsisimula na yan, di pwedeng mag-aksaya ng panahon. Napakaimportante sa atin ang mga ito (As soon as they request, I believe the process will start. We cannot afford to waste time, this is an important matter)," he said. — LBG/RSJ, GMANews.TV
