Outgoing Palace official prepares return to private sector
As the election fever begins to die down, some administration officials have started to prepare for life outside Malacañang. Deputy presidential spokesman Gary Olivar said Wednesday he is now updating his resume so he can return to the corporate world once President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo steps down from office on June 30. "(Inaayos) ko na ang aking resume. Tayo ay babalik sa private sector (I am now updating my resume. I plan to return to the private sector). As I said, this is my first and last chance in government, I did this only for the sake and on behalf of this particular president," Olivar said in an interview on dwIZ radio. Olivar made the disclosure a day after President Arroyo announced the creation of a team to work with the incoming president for a smooth transition from the outgoing to the incoming administration. He said he has lost interest in the public sector after Mrs. Arroyoâs term. On the other hand, administration senatorial candidate Reynante âRey" Langit returned to his first love, resuming his duties as radio anchor Wednesday morning. Langit, who anchors the stationâs primetime news show, read on air text messages from his listeners and supporters during his program. Return to private sector In explaining his decision to return to the private sector, Olivar said he does not relish politics as a career. He said many politicians in the United States, even presidents, would return to the private sector after the end of their terms. âGanoon ang ideal ko sa manunungkulan, habangbuhay ng pulitiko di yan ang buhay natin (That is my ideal of work in the public sector. The life of a perennial politician is not for me)," he said. On the other hand, Olivar said he will continue to support the legislative agenda of Mrs. Arroyo should she win as Pampanga congresswoman. He also said he still looks forward to drinking sessions with Langit and other administration bets such as former Cabinet Secretary Silvestre Bello III. âMagkikita pa tayo... mag-inuman muli at mag-reminisce (Letâs meet up once in a while to drink and reminisce)," he said. â LBG/RSJ, GMANews.TV
