Hello Noynoy in polls, goodbye Kris on Facebook?

While the nation is poised to say hello to a Noynoy Aquino administration, several thousands of Facebook users seem bent on driving his sister, celebrity Kris Aquino-Yap, out of the country. This was based on the more than 7,000 Facebook users who clicked the “like" button in the newly created page called “Kris Aquino’s Despedida." Kris, known for her frankness, had said that she is willing to move abroad if she would be the cause of distress of her brother if ever he becomes president. This was after Noynoy's critics said he would just be a puppet of his younger sister even if he becomes president. Noynoy — real name Benigno Simeon Aquino III, a senator — is leading by a wide margin over his eight rivals for the presidency in various unofficial tallies of last Monday’s automated elections. In the “Kris Aquino’s Despedida" Facebook page were calls for Kris to make good on her promise. Some were even offering to help her pack her bags or give her a ride to the airport. Others suggested ideas for a despedida party. The creator of the page, however, said the page was just for fun. "I have nothing against Kris Aquino. Let's all move on shall we? This is just a page," the disclaimer read. This was after some Facebook users questioned the creator’s motives, pointing out that she must be a supporter of Gilberto Teodoro Jr., a losing presidential candidate. Kris, meanwhile, said she is indeed leaving the country — but only for a Disney vacation with her two kids, Joshua and Baby James. “I will be gone for at least three weeks to give my kids the vacation we postponed last year because of mom’s deteriorating health," said Kris in a text message, referring to the late President Corazon “Cory" Aquino, who died August last year. Excerpts of the text message were posted on showbiz news website Philippine Entertainment Portal. Kris also said her critics did not succeed during Noynoy’s campaign for president, and are unlikely to succeed now. “During the entire campaign it was a nonstop assault on me as a person, a mother and a sister. Well, they didn’t succeed then and with the love and support of my sisters and my brother they won’t succeed now," she said. - KBK, GMANews.TV
